US Hand Transplant Patient Update

For Immediate Release: 1/26/1999

A press briefing will be held Wednesday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center Conference Center (16th floor). Drs. Warren Breidenbach, Jon Jones, and Gordon Tobin will give an update on Matthew Scott's condition. The United States' first hand transplant patient is in high spirits and continues to make progress. The hand transplant surgery began Sunday, January 24 at approximately 3:30 p.m. and lasted 14 ┬Ż hours. This pioneering procedure, which involved an eighteen member team, will greatly impact the future of transplantation and reconstructive surgery. NOTE: If you have not visited the Jewish Hospital campus during the hand transplant coverage, you must check-in with Security before the briefing at the SKYCARE building (corner of Brook and Liberty Streets). If you have checked in during the hand transplant coverage, please wear the credentials you were given while you are on the Jewish Hospital campus. The hand transplant program was developed by a partnership of physicians and researchers at Jewish Hospital, the University of Louisville, and Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center, PLLC.
