US Hand Transplant Patient Update to Feature Patient Advocate, Transplant Psychiatrist

A 4 p.m. press briefing will feature additional video of the first U.S. transplant patient, additional comments from the transplant team, the team psychiatrist and a family friend who is serving as Matt Scott's patient advocate. The briefing can be seen via satellite uplink coordinates SBS6, Transponder 2. Prior to the press briefing, which will begin at about 4:10 p.m., the transplant partnership of University of Louisville, Kleinert, Kutz and Associates and Jewish Hospital, will broadcast new b-roll of the patient and family prior to surgery. Still photos taken during surgery will be available at the transplant world wide web site handtransplant.com by 5 p.m. today. James Brown, a family friend who has volunteered to serve as a liaison between the family and the surgeons and hospital staff, will be available for questions. Also available will be Dr. Martin Klapheke, transplant psychiatrist, who will talk about the mental and emotional factors that influence the success of such a project
